Weekly Mix Vol. 28: Good Vibes with Moullinex, Major Lazer, and JayKode

Last Thursday, I danced the night away at Ultrabar. With my bestie by my side, I was swept away by Jeremy Olander’s meticulously crafted 2-hour set. To top off an already incredible evening, my girl Nicole and I even got to meet Jeremy thanks to a little help from some new friends. Just in case you were wondering, he’s a super nice, friendly guy!

I woke up Friday morning feeling wildly energized about this blog. There are so many exciting producers making a name for themselves that it’s hard to simply choose a handful to assemble into a weekly mix. This week, however, wasn’t difficult to edit. As soon as I heard each of these tracks, I knew they were exactly what needed to be part of this playlist.

I hope you love these tunes as much as I do. Happy listening!

Booze and Beats: Your 4th of July Playlist for a Perfect Weekend of Festivities

Happy 4th of July from the nation's capital!

Happy 4th of July from the nation’s capital!

The smell of juicy burgers sizzling on the grill, cheerful bursts of laughter as friends catch up, and buzzed feeling of joy from a few too many beers — ah, yes, it’s the annual celebration of America’s birthday! A day of partying and indulgence that should only be fueled by the best summer tunes.

Though I’m still not entirely sure how I’ll be celebrating over the holiday weekend (hopefully by a pool sipping an endless supply of mojitos) I expect to be happy, buzzed, and listening to great tunes. And since it’s ALWAYS a bad idea to assume the music will be good at a party, I’ve created a nifty little Fourth of July mix that I will stealthily be trying to play anywhere I go — and you should too.

This party playlist starts out with some upbeat tropical/funk house/future house vibes and gets more progressive as it unravels. There are some definitive songs of summer on this mix as well as some lesser-known tracks. No matter what you vibe, there’s something for everyone here!

Have a happy, safe, and vibin’ Fourth of July, everyone! xx

Weekly Mix Vol. 23 Plus Eric Prydz sets and Klingande tracks

Eric Prydz at Echostage in DC

Eric Prydz at Echostage in DC

Last Friday night my friends and I went on a musical journey. After weeks of anticipation, we finally got to bask in the glory of a three-hour Eric Prydz set at Echostage in DC. I’m in no way exaggerating when I say that I listened to his ENTIRE Soundcloud musical catalogue, including live sets, leading up to the show. And Prydz did not disappoint. Time seemed to just evaporate as we danced to his perfectly paced set. As my friends continuously pointed out that night, I was “all smiles” throughout the show.

You can’t listen to just one Eric Prydz track to appreciate him as an artist. His sets are where he truly shines. Not that many people can keep you interested and dancing for three hours, but this is a guy who has truly mastered his genre. That being said, here are my two favorite Prydz mixes for your enjoyment:

After spending all day Saturday recovering from Prydz’s amazing set, I geared up to head to the 9:30 club to see Klingande with the same crew as the previous evening. I didn’t think Klingande’s show could rival Prydz’s, but in many ways it was better. Klingande’s tropical vibe and incorporation of live instruments differs immensely from the progressive house Prydz has mastered. Prydz has years and years of experience under his belt, he knows how to control the crowd and can make three notes sound interesting. Klingande isn’t there yet, but his set was pure, joyful fun.

You can hear the various musical influences that have helped Klingande achieve his unique sound in each of his songs and remixes. The best way that I can describe his vibe is ‘summer beach vacation’ — and who doesn’t like that?

Anyway! Enough of the older material. Let’s get to this week’s tunes. There are plenty more upbeat summer vibes to discover in this week’s playlist. Listen here:

Happy rest of the week!

Turn Up Tuesdays Vol. 17: Happy Remixes Are Good for the Soul

Coming back to DC was rough after spending two days in paradise visiting my family in Miami. My mom did everything she could to make me feel like I was truly on vacation. Dinner under the stars at a new hot spot on Friday night, lunch at the Ritz on South Beach after soaking up some sun, and, of course, home-cooked meals from my favorite mama chef.

Though it was rough getting on that 7 a.m. flight on Monday, my mini vacation has me feeling re-energized and very excited about the next few months, especially when it comes to music! Festival season officially kicked off with Ultra and I can’t wait to see which smaller bands and DJs make their way to DC for some fun summer shows.

This week’s playlist is filled with dance-friendly beats. One of my favorite trap artists right now, UZ, released his most recent track from the “Trap Shit” series, a surprisingly mellow offering with a sexy little drop, and it’s one of my favorites from the past week. This compilation also features new remixes from Tchami, Daktyl, KSHMR, and Viceroy, among others. Of course, we all knew it wouldn’t take long for Rihanna’s new track to get the remix treatment! This Krs. remix of “BBHMM” is my favorite so far.

Happy Tuesday!

Turn Up Tuesdays Vol.14: New Miguel Migs, Du Tonc, and Plenty of Sweet Remixes

Get in the groove of the workweek with these dope tracks! Happy listening!

Unrelated to the turn up, if you have yet to listen to Kendrick Lamar’s new Album “To Pimp A Butterfly” I recommend you take the next hour and twenty minutes out of your day to do so. It’s a complex mix of musical influences that aren’t necessarily easy to listen to, or digest, but Lamar’s lyrical work is brilliant as always. I was underwhelmed after my first listen, but halfway through the second run at it, realized I was very wrong.

Turn Up Tuesdays Vol.13: New Major Lazer & DJ Snake, Jack U, George Maple, and So Much More

Lots of artists dropped new tunes this week, so for the first time in a while it was hard to decide what to include on this little ten-track list. My personal favorite is the new Major Lazer track, it’s been on repeat for the past 24 hours. Take in these sweet, sweet tunes today xx

Turn Up Tuesdays Vol.12

24 days until spring! Counting it down makes me feel like it’s really almost here. It’s been a ridiculously cold winter, I will honestly take any temperature reading above 35 at this point.

But since that’s certainly not in the cards for me (or most of the Northeast) any time this week, I’m gonna wrap myself up in the sounds of these fire tunes.

Happy listening! xx

Turn Up Tuesdays Vol.8

Another week, another set of glorious tunes.

This week’s extended mix is by German DJ duo Achtabahn. I’ve been sprinkling their tracks and remixes into my playlists throughout the past few weeks, and this NRJ Mastermix did not disappoint. It’s an hour-long journey through beautiful sounds that’ll transfix you as it progresses.

Turn Up Tuesdays Vol. 3

Now that the annual turkeys have been stuffed and devoured, leaving us in a hazy state of gluttony that somehow seems more satisfying with every passing year, most of us really just have one thing in mind — surviving the days leading toward a (hopefully extensive) Christmas vacation. Though I’m nearing the four-week mark as a member of the unemployed class, I’m as eager as anyone for a quick getaway. The sweet respite of Miami’s clear blue waters beckon, and the tropical tunes I’ve been listening to for the past 48 hours have me craving the beach more than anything.

Stay warm and jam out with my favorites from the past week:
