New Week, New Tunes: Robert DeLong

About a year and a half ago I was at a one-day music festival in Maryland called Sweetlife. As is always the case with this particular event, the skies had opened up and the rain was pouring down on us. I really don’t know how it’s possible that poor luck would have this be the case every year, but seriously, it rains EVERY SINGLE YEAR. My squad and I were annoyed but vowed to have a good time no matter what! After all, we were gonna see Kendrick Lamar, Passion Pit, Phoenix, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Wet shoes be damned.

Those acts were all just as amazing as I hoped they would be, but it was an unknown young artist I had never even heard of who stole the day, at least in my mind. His name is Robert DeLong — and he was a mesmerizing one-man act with more talent than I’d seen in a while. I got home and immediately acquired his freshman effort Just Movement. If this splendid little album never made its way into your musical sphere in 2013, here are my two favorite tracks:

After making us fans wait for what felt like an eternity, Robert DeLong has finally released some new tunes! These four tracks embody everything I love about his music — the combination of keys, guitar, drums, MIDI (musical instrument digital interface), and vocals to create danceable tracks that still feel like they have deeper meaning. DC-based peeps, he’ll be at U Street Music Hall on December 13th! I can’t think of a better way to start a Saturday night. He’s 100% worth seeing live, I’m giddy in anticipation and I’ve already seen him twice! So, check him out, fall in love, and see you on that dance floor.
